Overview

​Our General English course is designed to improve students’ English skills so that they can communicate more confidently in English-speaking work and social environments, and to help them continue into further study.  The course ranges from Starter to Advanced, as outlined below. After you have enrolled in General English, you will take a placement test to determine the correct level for you.

This qualification is delivered over a period of 10-76 Weeks

Location

189 Plenty Road, Preston, VIC 3072. Practical placement locations are as negotiated by ALACC with individual providers.

Qualification Description

Our General English course is designed to improve students’ English skills so that they can communicate more confidently in English-speaking work and social environments, and to help them continue into further study.  The course ranges from Starter to Advanced, as outlined below. After you have enrolled in General English, you will take a placement test to determine the correct level for you.

ELICOS Level

Starter Very little or no ability to speak or write English. A1 / 2
Elementary A few basic English skills. A1-A2 / 2.5-3
Pre-Intermediate Can communicate in familiar situations. B1 / 3.5
Intermediate Can use some different tenses, and can speak and comprehend well, but complicated grammar is difficult. B2 / 4
Upper-intermediate Can speak, write and understand confidently, with some mistakes. C1 / 4.5-5
Advanced Speaks fluently and has few comprehension problems. Makes mistakes that do not affect meaning. C2 / 5.5-6

*Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Each level is taught over a period of 10 weeks. Students can progress into higher levels based on the results of their assessments.

Timetable

Classes run four days a week, totaling 20 hours:

Monday – Thursday

9:00 – 3:30pm, including 1 ½ hours break.

Timing may be flexible, please enquire for more information.
