Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of representing another person’s work or idea as their own original work, without appropriate acknowledgement of the author or source. Simply put, failing to acknowledge ideas that have been borrowed from another source like internet, published books or periodicals, among others, is considered plagiarism.

ALACC has a Plagiarism Policy which is strictly enforced. Members of the teaching staff are required to report the matter to the CEO/ Director of studies if they have reasonable grounds to believe that cheating has occurred. Click here for our Plagiarism Policy

Collusion and Collaboration

Collusion is the presentation by a student of an assignment as his or her own which, in fact, is the result (in whole or in part) of unauthorised collaboration with another person or persons. Collusion involves the cooperation of two or more students in plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct.

To facilitate better understanding, ALACC encourages students to discuss and assist each other with problems associated with their studies. However, it is imperative to note that all assigned work must be undertaken by the student independently, and you must not work in groups unless specifically requested by the lecturer.

Cheating

Work submitted for assessment is accepted on the basis that it is a student’s own work. In any case, if the work submitted is identical/ similar to another student’s work, an assumption of cheating may arise. Cheating is most likely to lead to failure in the unit concerned and additional penalties may apply.

Penalties for Plagiarism

Disciplinary action may be taken against students who engage in plagiarism and collusion as outlined in the college policy, which is available upon request as well as viewable on the college website.
